Spurs eyeing manager from PL rivals and a Liverpool legend as potential Mourinho successors – report

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Jose Mourinho as Tottenham manager, according to 90Min.

Rodgers has enjoyed an impressive tenure with Leicester and it looks like he will be coaching in the Champions League next season – if he remains at the King Power.

The Foxes currently sit third in the Premier League, eight points clear of sixth-placed Spurs, who bounced back from a damaging week by beating Aston Villa on Sunday night.

However, Mourinho likely remains under pressure having exited the Europa League prematurely, and his job security will take a bigger hit if the Londoners fail to finish in the top four.

In that case, Tottenham could look to change things this summer – and Rodgers is apparently their number one target to take over from Mourinho.

90Min claims the former Swansea City, Liverpool and Celtic manager is aware of Spurs’ interest but there is no indication as to whether he is keen to make the move.

Meanwhile, the report goes on to say Tottenham are also fond of Rangers boss and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, which would be a more risky appointment given he is unproven in the Premier League.

For now, Spurs should concentrate on their late push for Champions League football. But their priorities could change very quickly after the next defeat.
