Gareth Bale says he expects to return to Real Madrid once his loan deal expires at Tottenham.

The Welshman re-joined Spurs on a season-long loan from the Spanish giants last summer, following problems over his relationship with Zinedine Zidane.

Bale, whose got just one year remaining on his deal at the Bernabeu, has been rumoured to extending that loan deal in north London by an additional year.

However, the Wales captain, whose scored 10 goals in 25 appearances for Tottenham this term, admitted that the plan was only ever to spend one season back in the Premier League.

Speaking ahead of Wales’ game with Belgium in their World Cup qualifiers, Bale said: “I think the main reason I came to Spurs this year was to play football first and foremost.

“Going into the Euros I wanted to be match-fit. The original plan was to do a season at Spurs and after the Euros still have a year left at Real Madrid. My plan is to go back, that’s as far I have planned.” (Quotes via the Evening Standard).

Despite Bale’s comments, I don’t think we’ve heard the last of this. With his future under serious doubt it Zidane remains in charge, if he stays fit and produces the form he has done in recent weeks, Tottenham will surely be interested in bringing him back next year.
